All child sessions are held in person at our Bethesda office. We do offer telehealth for parent-only sessions, provided parents are located in Maryland or Washington, DC at the time of the call.
We are out-of-network providers. Clients are responsible for the full session fee at the time of each appointment. At the end of each month, we generate superbills through our secure client portal, which contain all the coding and information needed to submit a claim to your insurance company for reimbursement. Depending on your plan, you may be reimbursed a portion of your upfront costs.
Not sure what your plan covers? Here are some questions to ask your insurance company:
- Do I have mental health benefits?
- Does my plan include out-of-network benefits?
- What does my plan allow for the following codes: 90834, 90832, 90837, 90846, and 90847?
- What is my annual deductible, and has it been met?
- How many sessions per calendar year does my plan cover?
- Is a referral from my primary care physician required?
- Are there standardized forms I need to submit for reimbursement?
Therapy sessions range from $210 to $230 depending on the therapist. Provider consultation and care coordination calls are billed in 15-minute increments at a prorated session rate. School visits, observations, and other off-site services include an additional $20 transportation fee.
Payment is processed securely through Sessions Health via Stripe, and is charged automatically on the day of your appointment. We accept all major credit cards. Checks made out to Little Minds Wellness, LLC are also accepted.
Please notify your therapist by phone or email at least 24 hours in advance if you need to cancel or reschedule. Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice, and no-shows, are charged the full session fee. As a courtesy to all clients, late arrivals will still end at the scheduled time.
In order to get the most out of this experience, it is vitally important to arrive on time to your appointments. As a courtesy to all clients, if you are late, the session will still end on time.
We respond to emails within 24 to 48 business hours. Email is appropriate for scheduling changes and straightforward logistical questions. For anything more clinical in nature, such as a concern about your child or a shift in treatment direction, we ask that you reach out by phone so we can give your question the attention it deserves.
We structure the beginning of treatment intentionally so that both you and your child feel prepared and supported from the start.
The first session is a parent-only meeting. This is your chance to sit down with your therapist, share your concerns, ask any questions you have, and give them a detailed history of your child. It also allows you to tell your therapist directly what you would like them to focus on.
From there, the next three to four sessions are with your child. The therapist will focus on building rapport and getting to know your child, while also beginning to assess for strengths, challenges, and treatment goals.
Once that foundation is in place, you will meet with the therapist again for a second parent-only session. Together, you will align on treatment goals, talk through parenting strategies that support those goals at home, and figure out the right rhythm for ongoing parent sessions going forward.
Very involved, and we will work together to find the right rhythm for your family. As a general guide, we see clients approximately four sessions for every one parent-only session, though this varies based on your child’s age, goals, and how things are progressing. If you would like a brief check-in after each session, just let your therapist know. They will set aside five minutes at the end to connect with you.
This is more common than you might think, and we are well practiced at working with it. If you can get your child to the office, we will take it from there. We have met kids in the hallway, in the waiting room, and even in the car. However your child arrives, we will meet them where they are.
It depends on what you are working on. Families who come in with a specific, short-term goal typically complete treatment within about six months. Children working through something more ongoing, like anxiety or big feelings, or struggling with multiple larger behaviors, typically stay for closer to a year or more. We try to be intentional about not keeping kids in therapy longer than is helpful given their age and development. Once treatment wraps up, the door stays open for check-ins as needed.
Yes, and we actively encourage it. We believe the more aligned everyone is, not just on goals but on strategies, the more effective our work becomes. Consistency across settings builds the kind of muscle memory that drives real progress.
We routinely coordinate with pediatricians, OTs, SLPs, and other providers, and we offer school consultations and classroom observations as an additional support. All communication with outside providers requires a signed release from parents first. Coordination calls are billed in 15-minute increments, and any off-site visits include a $20 transportation fee.
Confidentiality in child therapy looks different than it does for adults, and it shifts as children grow. For younger children, parents are typically more involved in session content. We share themes, progress, and any concerns openly so you can support your child’s growth at home. As children get older, some privacy within the therapeutic relationship becomes developmentally appropriate and actually deepens the work. When children feel they have a safe space to explore their feelings honestly, they tend to make faster and more meaningful progress.
In practice, this means you will always hear about your child’s overall progress, goals, and any significant concerns. The specific content of what your child shares may be held more privately, particularly as they get older. Your therapist will use their clinical judgment to navigate this balance and will always bring you in when it matters.
There are also legal exceptions to confidentiality that apply regardless of age: if your child discloses risk of harm to themselves or others, that information will always be shared.
